Putting It All Together
“The
whole is greater than the sum of the parts” is certainly true of these
vegetable powder mixes.
Super Green Powder A modern health food oriented powder that can also a subtle flavor boost to soups
and sauces, meat mixtures, omelets and egg muffins. Also good in smoothies.
MirepoixPowder Versions of this mix are used extensively in French, Italian, and Spanish
cooking
HolyTrinity Powder This forms the flavor base for many dishes in from Louisiana and
Creole cooking.
TomatoParmesan Powder This can be used on steamed vegetables, grilled chicken, corn on the
cob, sprinkled on fresh hot popcorn or as a garnish on macaroni or potato
salads. Since it contains dairy it needs
to be refrigerated and has a storage life of just a month so keep plenty of
dehydrated tomatoes around to make small batches.

following our articles - the posts on CFPA's website and Facebook page know that our Director, Hal Meng, loves to take really deep dives
into complex topics. Sometimes he dives so deep that he admits, he gives himself
the bends.
We are always eager to find new
information and share it. It's what we do. But rather flooding folks with a constant trickle of
updates, we've learned to update a series once or twice a year

Flours” These will be short posts on our
Facebook page, and will cover how to make them, what you can use them for, and
why it is worth it to add them to your pantry.

Winter Squashes
In the second part of our series on making and using dehydrated fruit and vegetable powders we are exploring using winter squash. Using winter squash gives a whole different flavor profile from summer squash so it adds a wider variety of powders and potential products from curried butternut squash soup to pumpkin pie.

After taking most of a week off in honor of the end of summer, our multi part series are back. Today we’ll explore making and using fruit powders, and we have a triple header on freezing garden produce coming up on Wednesday.
I was surprised to learn in this “Purposeful Pantry” article that you can use these versatile powders not only in baked goods but also in ice creams and flavored whipped cream toppings. They make unique condiments and dry rubs. They are also great in smoothies, flavored waters and add a kick to cocktails

In last week’s post on making and using fruit powders there was a mention of using them as a partial substitute for wheat flour to add flavor and reduce some of the gluten. I got so many requests for more information on that topic that I looked around and found this article that also share some information on other ways to increase fiber and reduce gluten.

I am pleased that there are hundreds of recipes and tips on how to use bean powder/flour. Rather than try to list them all I suggest you search with your favorite search engine using “recipes using bean flour”, or get specific like “ using bean flour in desserts'', or soups, or whatever strikes your fancy.”
